11) Pool Lifeguard Award - Annual Update (incl. CPR)

The Pool Lifeguard Re-Accreditation course is for Lifeguard professionals who have the current Pool Lifeguard Units of Competency.
 
This course will provide participants with acceptable standards of knowledge‚ judgement and physical abilities in the supervision of people in swimming pools. Essential modules include: accident prevention‚ administration‚ public relations‚ education‚ rescue response and basic technical operations.
Minimum age requirement is 16 years.

Pre-requisites include a current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID003 / HLTAID011) and an expiring Royal Life Saving Society Pool Lifeguard & Oxygen including units of competency
  • SISCAQU002 Perform basic water rescues
  • SISCAQU006 Supervise clients in aquatic locations
  • SISCAQU007  Perform advanced water rescues
  • PUAEME001  Provide emergency care
  • PUAEME003  Administer oxygen in an emergency 
  • HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
A copy of these units of competency will be required at the time of booking if issued by another provider.

Upon successful course completion‚ participants will be issued with Pool Lifeguard Re-Accreditation certificate 

The Royal Life Saving Pool Lifeguard  needs to be renewed every 12 months. 
 

Introduction:

The information provided here will assist you in deciding if the course selected is the right course for you.

It is assumed that participants are sufficiently physically fit and healthy to undertake this course. The following physical activities will occur during the course unless you advise of any physical difficulties or limitations: kneeling‚ bending over‚ crouching‚ standing‚ leaning‚ sitting, pushing, lifting weights, swimming long distances, towing, diving, carrying and other physical activity. 

The specific requirements required for successful completion of the Pool Lifeguard Package are:
- Performing 2 minutes Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation on an adult manikin on the ground
- Swimming 200m in under 6 minutes (any recognisable stroke)
- 50m timed tow in under 1 minute 45 seconds: 25m swim (any recognisable stroke), 25m tow of a conscious casualty

Learning Methods:

Course dates close one week before the commencement of the course so that participants have sufficient time to complete all pre-course learning activities. Pre-course learning activities need to be completed before the start of the face-to-face component. The pre-course work will develop your underpinning knowledge for the course to be undertaken.

Participants will require the following for the face-to-face component:
- Photo Identification (i.e. Drivers Licence)
- Your Unique Student Identifier (www.usi.gov.au)
- Your manuals (if applicable)
- Appropriate clothing
- Any drinks‚ meals and/or snacks 

Pre-Course: 
Participants are required to complete a Pre-Course Workbook before the face-to-face course. This may be completed online or paper-based. Your Trainer will provide you with the information to successfully complete your Pre-Course Workbook.
Face-to-Face:
Participants are then required to attend the face-to-face component to complete the practical assessment.
