Introduction:
The Teacher of Lifesaving is an online professional development course that covers the fundamentals of providing engaging, effective and safe teaching in a lifesaving context.
It is designed to upskill current swimming and water safety teachers or physical education teachers by providing the context, technique and teaching strategies for a range of lifesaving skills; including personal survival, rescue and resuscitation.
The course acknowledges that teachers have varying degrees of prior knowledge and skills and seeks to build on this expertise. It asks teachers’ to reflect on the context and theory that underpins skills, address gaps to improve learner outcomes and overall program quality, and reflect on their personal teaching practices.
A range of learning activities are used to provide an interactive and educational experience, including video, hypotheticals, knowledge prompts, true/false, drag and drop, click and reveal tiles, and scenarios.
On successful completion, participants will receive the Teacher of Lifesaving Award and the course has been recognised by Royal Life Saving QLD for 1 hour of professional development
Many Children miss the opportunity to learn how to perform lifesaving skills which assist themselves and others in need. It is often taught at a later age when majority of children stop swimming lessons. It is essential that we educate and teach children of all age’s lifesaving skills, so they can equip them in the event of an emergency.
Most Swim Teachers have not had the opportunity to learn this skill or have forgotten how to teach lifesaving skills to children. This course refreshes you and gives you so many new skills to use in your session plans, which will benefit children of all ages.
This course is an online module which only take roughly 20 minutes to complete and is a valuable tool for any Learn to Swim Teacher.
